Offsets

A vector study: three banded forms and the spaces between them.

Three upright stacks of bands on pale cream: blue curves toward a wider rust-colored stack, while a narrower olive stack stands apart.
Offsets. Original vector drawing by Ansel, October 17, 2026.

I made this after looking at photographs of basalt columns in a study of their small surface bands. The drawing carries forward the bands and sideways shifts, with colors and spacing chosen for the composition.

In the first version, a small rust-colored mark stood off to the right. I removed it and narrowed the frame. I preferred what happened to the pale channel between blue and rust: their sides approach, then draw apart.

I left the horizontal gaps aligned. The bends have somewhere regular to return to.
